We’ve officially entered tournament season, and BJMF is off to a fantastic start!

At the annual Yonex Bristol Swifts Cup (12–13 April), we had a strong BJMF presence, and our players put in some amazing performances.

Day 1 - Men's Singles

Mark, Tim, and Samuel all competed in style in their respective divisions.

In Men’s B+, Mark was on fire, cruising through the rounds in straight sets all the way to the final. There, he faced his toughest challenge of the day against Damrong from Thailand. After a difficult first set (5–21), Mark recomposed and put up a fierce fight in the second, narrowly losing 17–21. Huge congrats to Mark for taking home silver and showing such resilience!

In Men’s B-, both Tim and Samuel fought hard in the group stages and made it to the knockouts. Although both were eliminated at R16, we are sure they’ll come back stronger next time!

Day 2 - Men's Doubles

Alex & Mark, Tim & Samuel, Ian & Marcus, and Zak (& Arvin) proudly flew the BJMF flag on the second day.

In Men’s B+, Alex & Mark had a strong showing in the round-robin stage, winning two matches and narrowly losing one. They came second in their group and advanced to the knockout rounds. After a string of solid wins, they reached the semi-final, where they faced the eventual champions in a close match, falling 16–21, 18–21. But they weren’t done yet! Regrouping quickly, they went on to beat Peter and Longquan in the bronze medal match, 21–16, 21–11. Huge congratulations to Alex & Mark for securing third place! And an extra round of applause to Mark, who added a bronze to his silver in singles!

In Men’s B-, Zak (& Arvin) dominated the round-robin stage, winning all three of their matches and finishing top of their group. In R16, they narrowly lost 21–23, 19–21 against Charles and Brian from Ireland. It was understandably a tough loss, but what a performance! We’re sure Zak (& Arvin) will look back with pride on the way they fought in every rally. 💪 Meanwhile, Tim & Samuel had a solid run by finishing second in their group to progress to the knockout stage. In R16, they faced the eventual champions, Gerald and Jakub, narrowly losing 21–23, 18–21. It was a tight and impressive performance. Well done! 👏

In Men’s C-, Ian & Marcus stormed through the group stage, winning all their matches convincingly including a standout win against the no.2 seeds. They danced through the draw with determination, making it all the way to the semi-finals. There, they faced their toughest opponents of the day and were edged out in a heartbreaking match, 23–25, 19–21. In the bronze medal match, they fell to Thomas and Kasper from Denmark, 18–21, 13–21, finishing 4th overall. While the result was surely disappointing, Ian & Marcus showed real grit, and we know they’ll bounce back stronger and hungrier than ever! 💪🔥

That's a wrap - stay tuned for our coming tournament updates!
